Take a Drive to Palisade Falls

You can find many things to do in Bozeman, but Journey Rent-A-Car recommends you check out one of South Central Montana’s great natural beauties. Just a short drive from downtown in your rental car, Palisade Falls is rated by TripAdvisor as the #2 attraction to see in the Bozeman, Montana area. Palisade Falls also received the TripAdvisor 2014 Certificate of Excellence. While the waterfall itself may not compare to the greater U.S. waterfalls, the trip and short hike to the falls may be worth the effort. Many of TripAdvisor’s visitor-attraction reviews noted how beautiful the drive was to the falls. You can drive your car rental within about a half mile of the falls by parking in the Palisade Falls Picnic Area parking lot. From the parking lot, you can expect about a half-mile hike on an asphalt trail to get to the falls. Waterfalls of Montana notes “the trail’s maximum grade is 11%, which is the most difficult classification for handicapped use.” The hike is through local spruce and fir trees and alongside volcanic cliffs that were created from prehistoric lava flow. Palisade Falls is at about a 7,200 feet elevation and falls about 80 feet over columnar basalt. If you want to extend your trip to Palisade Falls, pack a lunch to enjoy the picnic area. You can also take advantage of local campgrounds if you want to stay overnight. Journey Rent-A-Car can set you up with a car or van rental for your trip.
